Que sera, sera…

whatever will be will be this year. We are less than a week into 2016 and I’m feeling pretty good about it. I have decided that it has a lot to do with how I brought in the New Year. After a gorgeous dinner at Morton’s in Georgetown with my parents, also celebrating my Auntie Steph’s good health, my roommate, my manmate and I headed across town to Brookland to Sahra‘s lovely home. It was so nice to a) not have to be outside in the cold waiting to get in somewhere b) not get get totes drunj at an overpriced bar where I likely had to dropkick someone to even get served c) spend the evening with good people, good food, and maybe a little too much champagne.

Sahra and Z had a great spread and cute little party games looking back on trivia from the past year. They also had this little bowl of questions for each of us to look back at our own years- favorite songs, moments, trips, etc. That was definitely my favorite! I also want to thank everyone for humoring me with my new toy- my camera stayed around my neck most of the night, although I’m not sure why I didn’t use it at all with the photo booth they set up.

It was kind of cool- we did the count down to 2016 twice: once one someone’s phone counting down the minutes and then again on a laggy phone feed of the ball dropping. #somillennial

I think this is about how I want to spend the first night of the new year forever. It was just so… nice.

Maybe next year I’ll know how to use my camera and think to get a picture of my outfit. I did look pretty cute, if I do say so myself.

Thanks again for having us- and letting us love of your fur babies! I hope everyone else had a great start to the new year as well!

Very Perry

I seriously adore Dana. Since she started commenting on my blog and I started following her’s, I’ve just become more and more impressed with her. I love her style and the fact that she’s working in an industry that she loves at such a young age. Plus, she as in love with her city as I am mine. And she went to school with people I know. So basically, this long distance friendship was meant to be. While some of my blogger friends were enjoying #NYFW, Dana was working it! The timeless but definitely not boring looks featured by Perry Ellis really caught my eye… along with some of the models ;), and I wanted to know more! Thankfully, I had Dana to give me the insider scoop!
1. How was the Perry Ellis brand born? Who were the key players and what was their inspiration?
Wow. Where do I begin? I could seriously be here all day and night talking about the history of Perry Ellis. First, Perry Ellis (the man/designer) started as a womenswear designer. After his passing, Supreme International bought the rights to the brand, changed the corporation to Perry Ellis International and transitioned the brand while incorporating Perry’s legacy into each and every piece! It’s truly such an interesting history – here’s a fun video to help tell more about Perry Ellis: The Man, The Designer, The Legacy.
Fun fact: Marc Jacobs and Isaac Mizrahi both worked for Perry Ellis!
2. How would you describe the Perry Ellis brand in 3 words?
Very. Freakin’. Perry 😉 See what I did there? Hmm. It’s hard to describe a company that literally has so much history attached to the name. Some key words for our Spring ’15 campaign are: Memorably, Impeccably, and Simply. Those are definitely three words that easily describe what we create here at Perry Ellis.
3. What’s your personal favorite Perry Ellis piece of all time?
If we’re talking about old school Perry Ellis, I’d have to say these sweaters that was actually created when Marc Jacobs worked for Perry Ellis  (um look at those colors)!pexmj
If we’re talking about since I’ve been with the company – it definitely needs to be a look from our Spring ’15 runway show – I was backstage dressing (I know, I’m a lucky girl) and I couldn’t take my eyes off this look!
pespring15runway Our Creative Director, Michael Maccari, and our team of designers are so unbelievably talented. It’s amazing to watch them come up with fresh (that’s a BIG word we use almost every 5 minutes in our office) ideas each season.
4. Have there been any big names spotted in Perry Ellis? If so, who?
Welllllll…at our fashion show Victor Cruz of the NY Giants, Patrick from @aguynamedpatrick and Joe Jonas were spotted wearing Perry Ellis in the front row! Also, Adam Gallagher from @iamgalla has worn Perry Ellis in his blog posts!
5. We’ve joked about Harry Styles looking great in Perry Ellis, but who would you love to see rock it?
My god, that would be amazing! HA! I would love to see Justin Timberlake (that’s a given) wearing Perry. A girl could only dream…but hmm, James Marsden and Bradley Cooper would look amazing in Perry Ellis Collection. They both have such tasteful and classic styles, but can easily step out of the box and wear something cool. That’s what we’re about at Perry Ellis: staying true to ourselves and our style but finding new, innovative ways to incorporate trends into our looks.
6. Are there any exciting trends in menswear we should be looking out for?
Hmm, based on what I’ve seen…definitely look out for: Workwear-inspired pieces, a great layering coat, textured everything, dark shades, and tonal colors.
7. What should every stylish man have in their closet?

A great (first) year

Happy first birthday to Little Bitty City One! My little blog has grown and changed so much since my first post (and selfies on my Surface tablet.) I owe so much to my readers and the new friends I’ve made from blogging. It’s been a pretty awesome year in general for me- moving out for the first time (a GIANT thank you to Mama and Daddy D for being so supportive during the transition), a raise and more responsibility at work, I’ve been asked to be in two of my best friends’ weddings, and I closed out the year meeting the most amazing and supportive guy. But this blog has been instrumental in fitting into this city that I can finally and officially call my home. The outfit from this post was actually what I wore out for New Year’s Eve- happy and confident and feeling like a million bucks. What better way to feature it than celebrating my first year of LBC1? As I prance into another fantastic year, I leave you with my favorite quote:

And if the moon had to runaway
And all the stars didn’t wanna play
Don’t waste the sun on a rainy day…

I will shine on for everyone
Shine on for everyone

Keeping it real

So… let’s get a little personal with this one. I’m not, never was, and will never be, one of those, “peony-macaron-bright-gold-sparkly-BRANDING-BRANDING-BRANDING-LOOK AT ME I’M A BRAND!”, as Erin put it, girls. When I looked over this particular group of pictures, I just kept thinking, “I look fat. My hair looks awful. This is not flattering.” You know, all those things that girls tell themselves on the reg because media loves to show us how we should look by using photo shop and makeup artists.

Side-note- ended up not really using this shoot because my roots were an abomination and not indicative of how great my Jenn is. In the meantime, I just got my hair done so I’m all good now.

There is no mold that I can fit into besides the Caro-shaped one that I have molded and re-molded over the years. And I like it that way, most of the time. I still use my dinosaur backpack, sometimes along side my gorgeous Ralph Lauren tote. When I was in high school, I had a boyfriend call me emo because I was wearing a tutu, band t shirt, and rainbow Uggs. Rain. Bow. Uggs. That I adored because they were candy colored and special edition and I stood out. In fact, I straddled the fence of wanting to stand out and wanting to fit in my entire life, and I’m finally (mostly) confident in just being.

But sometimes when I see all the pretty bloggers I get a little bit of the 16 year old back and I stress for just a second. But I just have to breathe and realize I will never look good in boyfriend jeans, Blair is on a totally different level than I will ever be on, and my hair will never hold a curl. I don’t particularly like peonies and I’ve never had a macaron. Tutus are fantastic in theory but aren’t super flattering and can you wear them on the reg? #shnope. Yea, I’d love to make my blog a business, but I haven’t really formulated a brand yet and I have, you know, a 9-5 where I’m trying to make some moves first. I may or may not have cried a little when I ended up on a particularly nasty thread on a website that I will not name.

I am a person. And I’m just trying to figure it all out. In the meantime, you can bet that I will stay true to myself.

Until then, this picture is great because I’m actually smiling. I real, goofy smile because that sign weighed a ton and I’m trying to move it in what is essentially a tutu. Because I am Caroline, I’m a little weird, and that’ll happen sometimes.

#WCW: A dash of gold

leopard+print+at+workThe first time I met Nicole, it was an INSTANT girl crush, based on her outfit alone. (striped pencil skirt and a sweater with a heart on it- I just requested an outfit post from her on the exact outfit because it was so cute so don’t you worry your pretty little heads) Then I found out she worked at my Alma-mater, GW, then I saw her arm party perfection. Combined with her genuine sweetness and the fact that she’s a fellow GLAMazon, I just really like her! I would describe her style as polished-All-American. It looks like our office-attire dress codes are pretty much the same, so I love checking out her blog for real-life outfit inspiration. Plus, she rocks some very classy animal print- which I adore.
I honestly can’t believe it took me so long to get my act together an make her my official #wcw of the week! It probably has something to do with us both being busy DC girls on the go. She just moved for the 4th time in two years! And as I’m getting ready to move out for the first time, which you’re probably all tired of hearing about, I feel like I have someone to talk to when I’m crying in my new apartment because where are my nail clippers?!?
Be on the lookout for a little bitty dash of gold partnership on the horizon as I make my big move into the city and do some reworking of LBC1 😉 Literally as I’m putting this post together we’re texting and she gave me an awesome idea that has us both so pumped.

#WCW: Kristyn of First Impressions

IMG_2766I’m not entirely sure when or how I started following First Impressions, but Kristyn struck me as being something that I have never quite managed: a perfect lady. Yes, my mom’s family is originally from SC, and yes, my Jersey friends saw me as southern, but I never quite made it to the game day, perfect hair, sweet tea-ness that Kristyn just is. I met her as I was literally running out the door of the Blogger Scene event, and even just meeting her for a second, she was just so sweet and genuine! (One might say she made a great first impression 😉 ) And after reading her WCW answers, I literally just want to be her best friend, in hopes that some of her sweet (I keep using that word- sorry. Not really.) sparkle will rub off on me. This is the first WCW I’ve done where I actually even want to make commentary, because I am on the same page as her with SO. MANY. THINGS. My comments are italicized.

9. Daughters by John Mayer (will dance to this with my Father at my wedding someday)
10. Honey I’m Home by Shania Twain (probably the first song I remember ever listening to and the only song I know every word of!) (I once did a tap routine to this in a red sequined cowgirl outfit. Lawd.)

IMG_36885 people who have impacted your life?
1. My parents – they’ve always helped me achieve my hopes and dreams, and have never told me I can’t do something. They support me through anything, and because of them I am who I am today.
2. My grandmother, Nancy Royster… she is the epitome of a true Southern woman. I’ve never met a better cook, someone more poised and elegant, and a true Godly woman.
3. My high school yearbook teacher – if it wasn’t for her constructive criticism and my rejection of becoming yearbook editor-in-chief, I wouldn’t have the determination to prove people wrong. While I was extremely bummed at first, it was my first lesson that life isn’t easy. All you can do is take that rejection and let it fuel you for the future. I’ve never looked back since!
4. Courtney Kerr – it may sound stupid, but if it wasn’t for watching her on Bravo’s Courtney Loves Dallas, I wouldn’t have started my blog. It impacted me because well, I wouldn’t be doing this interview if it wasn’t for her!

3. Jeans are never an appropriate form of dress for a wedding or Church. (CAN I GET AN AMEN!?)
BONUS-I’m going to throw in one more… E-vites are not an appropriate form of invitation for formal
gatherings. If I get one more wedding e-vite, I will scream. (Girl. This is a thing?!?)

2 things that scare you?
1. Deep Water… Probably my biggest fear in life, which is very ironic seeing as I was a competitive
swimmer for almost 12 years.
2. Not accomplishing everything I want to do. There are so many things I’ve already been blessed with or have accomplished, but the list of stuff I haven’t grows every day.

#WCW: Lauren Anne of DC Girl in Pearls

Gingham-+-White-Jeans-1Guys. I haven’t done this in FOREVER. But I’ve missed my #WCW (that’s #womancrushwednesday if you’re tardy to the party) feature and I love learning fun facts about my favorite bloggers as much as I hope you do! Plus, the lovely ladies I have asked seem to have fun answering my silly questions.
Lauren Anne of DC Girl in Pearls has been one of my favorite DC bloggers for quite some time, ever since I saw a picture of her in candy pink Hunter boots. Locally, not many of us celebrate our inner (and outer) prepsters like she does! Her style is classic, sophisticated, fresh, and fun! Not only do I love her clothes/ accessories/ look in general, but she features awesome recipes and cocktails. Plus, as a (hopefully very soon) future actual resident of DC, I love her little decorating tips. And apparently we both have an affinity for pop music and brunch, so I’m really excited to meet her next week. 😉

#WCW: @hillarygrove of The Closet Party

Here’s a little fun fact about me that some of you may or may not know: I am currently the Social Media Director of G.L.A.M. (Giving Lables A Meaning) which, for now, basically means interacting with fabulous local bloggers and boutiques- there will be lots more to come as we get closer to our event, but I love it. Last week, I commented on an instragram from Hillary Greenwald of The Closet Party about her red/ leather/ leopard combo and we became Twitter buddies because she used the term “bad-assery” and that is just perfect. After checking out her blog, I loved her even more. Selfies and action shots and really fun, gorgeous fashion. I also loved the way she answered her #wcw Top Ten Questions because I found myself reading them in my own voice- as in, she writes like I do!

#WCW: @QueSeraSahra

cafe-12I met Sahra at the CapFABB event a couple weeks ago. She was wearing the most fierce skirt and we hit it off immediately- talking about cats, wine, modeling, working in retail, and everything in between! After a few glasses of wine and a lot of random chit-chat, we were insta-bffs that I’m convinced would have hung out multiple times if this dang weather would get its act together already! I appreciate her sense of style and sense of adventure.

You should definetely follow her blog, Que Sera, Sahra:

From her blog: Sahra is an entrepreneur, at her core and in her mind. This blog (formerly called “EffortlessCool”) was the start; from there and her ties in the NYC industry and her educational background (Fashion merchandising), she was able to test out the waters in various corporate fashion positions. She fell in love with writing and editing, and corresponded on behalf of other start up websites. After moving to The District for the love of her life, she began work in PR and more writing projects, which brings her to where she is today; a dedicated lover of fashion and media with up to 4 projects at once.

Sahra has a unique mind and style; eclectic and versatile she’s relatable to a broad range of readers. She grew up on pop-punk in suburban Massachusetts before moving to the hustle and bustle of the most versatile and accepting city in the world, and then landing in the land of conservative dressing and suit sets. With street style, magazines, and web inspirations, Sahra is able to keep her style unique and fresh.

CapFABB’s 3rd @ Dirty Martini

Tuesday night was CapFABB‘s 3rd anniversary party featuring Capwell + Co. at Dirty Martini. This was my first CapFABB event, and let me tell you I was pretty intimidated walking in, hearing the chitchat of literally a hundred beautiful bloggers as I was walking up the stairs to our private party. I shouldn’t have been. Every single woman I met was a total doll, plus Meaghan of District Sparkle was awesome with the introductions, even though I was being ridiculously, uncharacteristically shy.

(Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you!)

Besides having the opportunity to meet some pretty awesome ladies, this party had something that I will now demand at every party I go to for the rest of forever:

Yea. Like a build your own sundae bar but for arm parties.

I LOVED seeing what the other ladies all picked. Alison of Chain Strap Purse put together my favorite arm party besides mine and I almost stole her scheme. Mine is a secret for now, since I’m working this weekend on an exclusive piece for another network I belong to, The DC Ladies.

I adored meeting everyone and bonding with bloggers- getting to ask for advice first hand about cultivating my blog to where I’d like it to be. It was a great night which made it a long day today, so this new CapFABB is going to snuggle up with Little Bitty Kitty One (if I can get him to stop stampeding around my room in circles) and go to sleep.

Thank you to the lovely leaders of CapFABB for putting on such a wonderful event, and I look forward to attending many more.
