Black + white // rose + maple

I really think this is my favorite dress. When I first saw it in the window of H&M last year, I actually spoke to it. “I’m coming back for you,” I said. And I did. While I usually pair it with a Barbie pink blazer and some major bling, I decided to soften up my black and white with another signature color- rose gold… mostly so I could show off my amazing new Sidney watch from Jord.

IMG_9319Remember when I fell in love with my recycled skateboard glasses from Royal Threads that I got at Warped Tour last year? Well, as soon as I found out about Jord, I felt the same way. Not only does it look awesome with my wood sunnies, but it’s so light on my wrist compared to my beloved silicon MK watch. And of course I love the subtle sparkles around the face of the watch. Jord as a company is helping to create a sustainable lifestyle combining natural elements with modern design for people who are going places. Helllooooo they totally belong on my wrist, and on the wrists of girls on the go like me who are also concerned with honoring the natural.. The word Jord is actually Swedish for earth/ soil/ land.

While I picked the Sydney to match my sunnies, I also really loved the CORA SERIES in Zebrawood & Turquoise, as well as the 746 SERIES Black & Maple. They have a style for everyone, so check out the entire collection for yourself!

Lunchtime play date

I am SUH ESSITED that spring time has arrived(ish) and I can abolish the tights and bust out the little dresses. Admittedly, it was much colder on this day that I had anticipated and with the wind I was just about a walking Popsicle. But at least I got to finally meet up with my Nicole and play around in Lafayette Square Park across from the White House. And can I talk about how this is officially my favorite outfit right now? I think of that jacket as my own personal tour jacket- I got it made when I was 14. Paired with the comfiest little dress (for under $15!!) and shoes + my backpack… easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Lucky charms + a skirt of gold

Let me be straight up: this was supposed to be my St. Patrick’s Day outfit, but I am so sick of sweaters, layers, clothes in general, that I opted for the shamrock green sundress I got for my birthday brunch last year with a blazer and flats. One major piece of clothing is definitely preferable to three, especially since it gott up to 70 yesterday.

That’s not to say that I don’t love this outfit. As I was putting it together, I thought of all the pretty ‘mallow colors in my old favorite cereal. Papa Downing didn’t want us eating “junky” cereal growing up, so Lucky Charms was a treat for when my mom had it left over from a project she did with her students (ditto Froot Loops). And St. Andrew’s used to always have it on St. Patrick’s Day, which I thought was hilarious. The “marshmallows” were clearly the best part. Pastel rainbow colored sugar? HULLO. That’s basically Caro-chow. I also love this outfit because it’s real… like it’s not all brand new and I didn’t go shopping for this post. It’s stuff that came together out of my closet. And it works!

And how cute is my coffee tumbler? When my friend Brittany came down for Galentine’s Weekend, she left it in my room as a sneaky early birthday present. She found it on Etsy in a shop called Vivacious Monograms.

Rose gold ballerina

Please tell me that I’m not the only one who thinks there are magical retail fairies that sometimes cast magic spells and deliver you the most perfect thing. In the case of my almost-tutu, that fairy was my friend Tiffany. After an entire afternoon of disappointing results while trying to get her a wedding dress fitting, defeated and freezing, we wandered into Wink on M Street. She walked over to their clearance rack, picked it up, and said, “try this on.” That was it. I was smitten with a skirt.

There’s kind of a funny balance with this skirt. Since it has the fun shape an texture, I feel like it’s best to pair it with a simple black top, but since it’s black, there’s plenty of room for jazzing it up with accessories. I’m way into rose gold right now, which lightens up my outfit a little bit. I wore *almost* this exact same outfit to the Blogger Scene event (+ then to burgers and girl talk with some of my faves) and I love how it can transition from my office to an event!

bright + MINE with eShakti

I’m the type of girl who likes to customize pretty much everything in my life. That’s why I’m so obsessed with Chipotle and monograms. The finished product is MINE and all MINE. So when eShakti asked me to try their website- where you can customize clothes? SOLD. First of all, everything they sell comes in size 0-36W, so it’s clothes to fit every woman. But then, once you pick your base size using a detailed measurement chart- MORE OPTIONS! You put in your height, pick a sleeve type, a length, and neckline! Ain’t nobody else going to have the same look!

I decided to go a little bit outside of my comfort zone with this tunic top. The pattern is a little louder than I would normally choose, but I adore it! And I’ve gotten so many compliments. I do have to say, if you’re unsure of your measurements, go up a little. This top fits a little looser, which I love, but I also ordered a dress with a coupon they sent me and it was too snug across my bust. I gave it to a friend, who looks adorable in it, but I was a little disappointed, especially after the great success with the tunic. IMG_7817 IMG_7816 IMG_7820 IMG_7827 IMG_7831 IMG_7823

All in all, I loved the experience of ordering with eShakti, and I would recommend it to my friends and readers because the customization is so much fun!

#TGIF: dotty stitchy bow-y bronies

Wednesday night was pretty much one of the best nights of my life. I’ll save it for #MusicMonday but I went to an amazing concert with amazing friends but then had to be at work early the next day so I’m basically like…

But I’m being responsible and writing my #TGIF before I pass the eff out. Then I really have to get my Thursday night beauty sleepsies because I’m seeing The Ataris at the Filmore with an old friend. Getting mucho rock on this week. Ending out my birthday month.

  • CHECK OUT THAT AWESOME PICTURE MY FRIEND JESS DID FOR ME! You can commission her at Going Dotty. She does awesome work.
  • Ready for a spring fling arm party? This piece is most necessary.
  • I just saw this awesome documentary. It’s about acceptance and friendship and stepping out of what most people would consider the norm. Check it out.
  • But like, why would you even WANT to drive into the Cherry Blossom Fest? Take Metro. If you must be in a car, take Uber.
  • I got my first (and probably last) Stitch Fix today. All the clothes that came in were ok but nothing I wanted to keep for their prices. It’s an awesome concept, but probably just not for me. I went through my fix with a co-worker and she told me, “none of this stuff is what you would pick for yourself.”

What are your plans for the weekend?

Get In My Closet: #Mint & #Pink

This really requires very little explanation. This is one of my favorite color combos. I always feel so light and happy when combining the two. Also, spring. Blah blah blah tired of cold weather, etc.

CapFABB’s 3rd @ Dirty Martini

Tuesday night was CapFABB‘s 3rd anniversary party featuring Capwell + Co. at Dirty Martini. This was my first CapFABB event, and let me tell you I was pretty intimidated walking in, hearing the chitchat of literally a hundred beautiful bloggers as I was walking up the stairs to our private party. I shouldn’t have been. Every single woman I met was a total doll, plus Meaghan of District Sparkle was awesome with the introductions, even though I was being ridiculously, uncharacteristically shy.

(Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you!)

Besides having the opportunity to meet some pretty awesome ladies, this party had something that I will now demand at every party I go to for the rest of forever:

Yea. Like a build your own sundae bar but for arm parties.

I LOVED seeing what the other ladies all picked. Alison of Chain Strap Purse put together my favorite arm party besides mine and I almost stole her scheme. Mine is a secret for now, since I’m working this weekend on an exclusive piece for another network I belong to, The DC Ladies.

I adored meeting everyone and bonding with bloggers- getting to ask for advice first hand about cultivating my blog to where I’d like it to be. It was a great night which made it a long day today, so this new CapFABB is going to snuggle up with Little Bitty Kitty One (if I can get him to stop stampeding around my room in circles) and go to sleep.

Thank you to the lovely leaders of CapFABB for putting on such a wonderful event, and I look forward to attending many more.

Gift Basket: His and Her Valentines

When I worked at Pier 1, I was sort of known for the gift baskets I put together. I would get really excited when things came together to create a unique gift for my customers to give their loved ones. I also made quite a few gift baskets for my own loved ones. Last year, a man ran into the store the Valentine’s Day night needing a gift immediately for his wife. I grabbed a basket and put in every lavender scented thing we had and spruced it up with some glittery Valentine’s Day ornaments and lined the basket with red napkins. He looked at it and said, “Wow! This is perfect- so easy and so personal!” Dude, I hate to tell you but it wasn’t personal at all because you had a sales-girl who knows nothing about your wife put that together in 10 minutes. The point is, I rock at curating gift baskets. Below are my suggestions for him and her.

For Him:

  1. Sperry Top Sider Washable Bahama 2-Eye
  2. DKNY Red Delicious Cologne for Men
  3. Smathers and Branson Bourbon Needlepoint Key Fob
  4. Leather Heart Flask
  5. Guiness Beer Pralines
  6. Map Cuff Links
  7. Captain America Mug
  8. Fireball Whiskey
  9. Vineyard Vines Candy Hearts Tie
  10. J. Crew Arrow Tie Clip

For Her:

  1. Happy Heart Perfume Spray
  2. Queen of Hearts/King of Spades tea tin
  3. Cupcake Wines- Red Velvet
  4. diptyque ‘Feu de Bois’ Scented Candle
  5. Chocolate Candy Heart Soap
  6. Heart Sunglasses
  7. Stella and Dot- On The Mark Necklace
  8. Monogrammed Georgia Red Leather Cuff Bracelet
  10. Flavored Sugar Sampler
